I live in Elkridge, Maryland. It's close enough to Baltimore that the water tastes funny, and far enough away that you can't catch a bus to save your life. So I have a car, a red 2002 Honda Civic EX. I'll probably never buy another non-Honda again, although I miss my black '87 Renault Allaince.
I'm from New York, originally. I lived in Flushing, Queens until I was 8, then my family moved to Spring Valley, in Rockland County. If you look at a map, follow the Garden State Parkway north and the New York State Thruway from the Tappan Zee Bridge west until they meet. I'm a little bit north of that. I moved to Baltimore in 1987 when I started college, to Towson in 1994, to Parkville in 1999, and to Elkridge in 2006.
In December 1995, I graduated from [X] , after a brief (7 year) stint as a student at, and employee of, The Johns Hopkins University.
Having finished my employ at Hopkins and my education at [X], I spent a year developing web pages for now-closed Potomac Research International (a wholly-owned subsidiary of now-closed Decision Systems Technologies, Inc.), a contractor for the U. S. Army Environmental Center. I then spent 8 years as a System Administrator (I am Root! Fear me!) for CMSI, a financial software company in Columbia, MD; and another 8 years as Senior Systems Administrator for now-closed Yellowbrix, a web content company in Alexandira, VA (a mere 2 hours from home). Now I work for a Honeywell company as a contractor for NASA at the Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD.
On 12 October 2003, I married Michelle. I should write more about her.
But she is a very active member in the
Games Club of Maryland, and
she is a math teacher at North County High School in
Anne Arundel County. We have
three cats.
As far as personal opinions, I tend to waver. I was raised Jewish, but I
consider myself Agnostic, although my culture and manners are blatantly
New-York-Jewish. Politically, I waver between liberal and libertarian. I
support my police (having been one for 18 months, and having been a police
dispatcher for 2 1/2 years) and other emergency workers. I followed the
New York
Mets
before I gave up baseball during the strike of '94. I followed
the Baltimore Stallions Canadian Football team
before they moved to Montreal. Now I have a love-hate relationship with
the Johns Hopkins Blue Jays lacrosse
team, and
pay attention to the Baltimore Orioles and Ravens just to have something
to talk about.
My musical tastes lean heavily to the late 50's, the 60's, the early/mid 70's, skip disco, pick up again in the early 80's, and then include Billy Joel, "Weird" Al Yankovic, and Christine Lavin. Now that my those collections are complete, I'm picking up John Lennon and replacing my aging Beatles albums and tapes.
I usually wear jeans and t-shirts, with a special fondness for two tie-dyes made by my sister Lori, and a John Lennon T-shirt with my most-favoritest quote. I haven't matched a pair of socks since October 1986... well, once, but I was dressing in the dark and it was an accident, and I choose not to dwell on one slip. On the Myers-Briggs test, I'm an ISTJ. I consider myself to be eccentric, which is what they call insane people who are too important to insult by calling them insane.
